Leaving for Dublin - Sunday July1

Well, what a way to start off a vacation planned and booked a year ago!

Our ititial flight out of DFW on AA was pushed back by a couple of hours for some unknown reason.  We finally made it off the ground and were on schedule for the connecting flight in Chicago.

Well, the weather didn't cooperate, and we circled for 45 minutes.  After finally landing, we hustled to meet the connecting flight!

But..... it had left early................. bummer.

So, Emma, being the world traveller, switched us to a British Airways flight that had been delayed.  Instead of directly to Dublin, however, we had to fly to London Heathrow, then get a connecting flight to Dublin.

All said, we're scheduled to arrive in Dublin at 3:00 Monday afternoon instead of 8:00 Monday morning.  So much for the Dublin sights.

All's good, though.  We're currently sitting in O'Hare waiting for the BA flight.

The next update will be Monday evening, Lord willing and the creek don't rise!!

No pictures on this Post 'cause there's lotsa people that don't want their picture taken.

P.S.
Hello everyone! I am Emma, Matthew's daughter and world traveller mentioned above. A little bit of explanation on the preparation for the trip from me. I booked through Authentic Ireland tours as I was not familiar enough with Ireland to plan timing and housing appropriately.  The representative was lovely and responded to all my inquiries timely.  She planned for us a 7 night Southern Ireland tour - Dublin, Waterford, Killarney, and Celbridge.

Being a consultant, I know the imporance of condensed packing. I told the family that only a carry-on bag and personal items was allowed. Packing this way is good for two purposes; one, easy travel between B&B's as we would only be staying one night most days, and two, if you miss a flight your checked bag keeps moving! Checked bags are never a good thing if you are iffy on the flight situation.  The family had plenty of room for clothes and our "personal item" open for souveniers.
This turned out to be a wise decision because AA changed our flight times and we missed the connection in Chicago. Fortunately, my job has me in Platinum status with AA. I was able to call the Advantage desk and have our flights switched.

We arrived at 3pm in Dublin, cleared security, and taxi'd to the Alex hotel. Those we met along the way were friendly and made us positive for the rest of the trip.  The Alex hotel was a quaint place with an old time radio and cute bay window to look out on the street from.  Ruthanne, Dad and I ate next door at the Gingerman Pub. Dad, of course, chatted with an older couple about motorcycles and Guiness beer while Ruthanne and I rolled our eyes, eating fish and chips.  We were all a bit exhausted from the 12+ hour travel day, so Dad and I did one final walk around the block and headed for bed.  While we would have enjoyed being in Dublin longer, it was nice to see Heathrow again from my last time there 5 years ago.  Looking foward to more of Ireland scenary!
